Class D fires are becoming more and more common. Many magnesium components are used in today’s cars including steering columns, door frames, dashboards and seat frames, and cause a dangerous flare-up or explosion as plain water or foam is applied. Even a fire in a machine shop or a supplier involved with aluminum, titanium or magnesium can present a challenge, unless you’re prepared.
Sand and powders aren’t going to cool your Class D metal fires, so there will be reignition. Only F-500 Encapsulator Agent can be safely applied to Class D metals and provide rapid cooling. If you remove the heat, you remove the fire.
To be prepared for Class D fires, there is a simple solution – F-500 Encapsulator Agent. By educting 3% F-500 EA in your hand lines, you change the cooling mechanism of water from steam conversion to thermal conveyance. The protective skin of F-500 EA prevents the water drops from converting to explosive hydrogen and oxygen. F-500 EA can be delivered from a standard firefighting nozzle.
F-500 EA also penetrates deep into Class A fires and encapsulates Class B fuels, both polar and nonpolar, rendering them nonflammable, making F-500 EA the obvious choice for car fires. F-500 EA can also be used to mitigate fuel spills without the need for absorbent and costly cleanup.
Watch the video to see F-500 EA extinguish this magnesium fire, reducing the temperature from 5000 degrees to under 100 degrees in less than a minute.
